There's a number of reasons I love being a Reverse Mortgage Specialist. Here are some of my top reasons for continuing to do what I do!
Bringing professionalism to an industry that hasn't earned the best reputation. Yes, I'll readily admit that the lending industry, in particular, reverse mortgages have earned a fair share of criticism in the past. I do happen to believe that like every tool, it has great function and utility for the right people in right situation. Bringing professionalism to the industry to me, means this. I get to help people identify exactly when I feel this is an appropriate tool to use and why it is appropriate. I also get to help people identify when that's not the case. It brings me great joy to advise people against the reverse mortgage if I don't see it as a good fit for them!
Guiding people through a journey. The reverse mortgage conversation usually starts with skepticism, cynicism and fear. It tends to be a longer process than most other lending due to peoples discomfort and poor understanding of retirement and their own financial picture. Being able to guide people from a place of fear to a result that means a more secure retirement and potentially a more secure legacy is a really enjoyable process for me.
Working alongside professionals is a lot of fun! I have the privilege of working alongside some brilliant attorneys, planners and trusted advisors for retirees on a regular basis. These professionals help provide resources, additional credibility and make me sharper at all of the many moving pieces that a reverse mortgage will impact at or near retirement.
Earning someone's trust really feels good. Trust is easily broken and lost and gaining it is no small feat! I truly enjoy getting to know my clients and their situation and helping them navigate a whole lot of obstacles. From providing clarity around common concerns in retirement to offering professional introductions to outside resources, it's a pleasure to earn the trust of the people I work alongside.
I continuously learn in my career. Not only is lending always changing, underwriting, the tools that we have available and the retirement landscape shifts all the time. Being a reverse mortgage specialist lets me continue to learn and grow and self develop around a topic that I unashamedly geek out over, retirement.
